Peter Funch

Danish photographer Peter Funch stakes New York City street corners out for two weeks at a time, taking pictures of passersby from the very same spot. But what he does next may be even more labor-intensive.

For his “Babel Tales” photo series, Funch picked dozens of samey pedestrians — smokers, cell-phone gabbers, hospital-scrubs wearers, yawners — and Photoshopped them into the same frames. In one photo, Times Square shutterbugs turn into a swarm of paparazzi. In another, an ocean of kids seems to wash over the city. Funch has even created a New York where everyone carries flowers.

I cannot get over how creative, fascinating, and provoking these photographs are. It really makes you wonder about all those little details that no one ever catches. And yet someone could have probably done that exact same thing, in the same spot as you. the commonality in all these photos in a single location is astonishing. Perhaps we all aren't as alone as we think we are.
